Sweetie Pies

So I’ve already made an entry about pie pops…but I have made a lot recently for the Spring season, and I think they deserve another post!

Sweetie Pie sampler basket for a bride and groom…strawberry, apple, and blueberry pops!

Customized tag for the Sweetie Pie sampler!

I think pie pops may be even cuter than cake pops!

And a sampler soon turned into…360 pie pops for a lovely Spring wedding!

Apple! Dusted with cinnamon and sugar…portion control has never looked so sweet.

Wedding tag!

long overdue update!

This is definitely an overdue update…since it’s been, what, like 2 months now? The holiday season was busy and time consuming for me– to say the least. Lots of fun memories made, and lots of delicious desserts baked. This post is just going to be a hodgepodge of holiday goodies, so try to keep up!

We will begin our tour with Peanut Butter Blossoms…one of my favorite cookies to make around the holidays!

Peanut butter dough, rolled in granulated sugar…

Who doesn’t love Hershey Kisses?

Peanut butter and chocolate– such a good combination. I love how the Hershey Kiss stays all melty, and never really solidifies because the cookie is warm!

Next up…baby shower cake pops! Can you guess what kind of cake they chose? (I’ll give you a hint: red velvet!)

Pink vanilla-flavored chocolate! Hmmm, wonder if it’s a girl or a boy!

These were some of my favorite cake pops to make, because they are just so whimsical! It’s hard to see in the pictures, but there is actually some sparkle in the coating…along with pastel sprinkles and mini hearts!

A customized tag completed this order– sweet pops, for a sweet baby girl!

Next up was an order for 175 black and white cake pops for a classic winter wedding!

The pops were tied with white, black, and silver ribbon…to match with the wedding theme!

The order was finished off with a customized tag…which is quite blurry in this picture, but I guess that’s what I get when I try to take a sideways picture in a rush from the backseat of the car while delivering the order!

“Thank you for sharing in the joy of our wedding day!”

Last up…Christmas pops! The inside was a butter cake, and the outer shell was a vanilla flavored chocolate coating.

Red and green sprinkles, and candy cane crunch! All packaged up and ready to go…

A customized Christmas tag!

I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season, and a Happy New Year! My New Year’s resolution is that I won’t go another 2 months without an update post!

PHS reunion pops

My father-in-law has his 30th year high school reunion tonight! This kind of celebration called for some cake pops…

The school colors are black and orange…works well for Halloween, too!

pumpkin chocolate chip cookies

Or perhaps these should be named “pumpkin chocolate chip pillows”– because they are some of the fluffiest, cake-like cookies I have come across! I will admit that I have a slight addiction to pumpkin, and may need a 12-step program at some point. So let’s pretend that this isn’t my 2nd post about pumpkin in the last 2 weeks, and just focus on the fact that it’s almost Halloween! And hey, I have until at least after Thanksgiving to get all of the fall pumpkin desserts out of my system!

Mmmm.

The pumpkin cookie base! Does it look familiar? It looks strikingly similar to the pumpkin chocolate chip roll base…

Added flour, baking soda, and lots of spice!

The first time I made these cookies I tried to get them to be uniform and look the same on the cookie sheet…but the dough is sticky, and the little peaks give the cookies some “character”!

Golden…orange? My kind of cookie!

Is there a dessert in existence that chocolate doesn’t work with?

Happy Halloween!

Main Line Birthday Bash!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Sunday October 9th, 2011 marked the annual Main Line Birthday Bash at The Main Line Arts Center in Haverford, PA, where parents and kids come out to check out the best birthday entertainment, crafts, and cake– and of course, to get some free samples!

I had every intent to take lots of pictures. Really. Pinky-swear. The day was so busy that my camera stayed content at the bottom of my bag, and I focused more on giving out cupcakes, cake pops, and business cards galore! There were lots of hungry people, and no time for me to focus on documenting the day! Luckily, my mother-in-law snapped some photos so I can share them with you…

My lovely little banner!

Hmmmm…somebody forgot to type the “Bakeshop” after my name– oh well, Sharpie saves the day again! The mini cupcake in the background was my most popular cake sample…dark chocolate fudge with Oreo buttercream!

I gave out 75 cake pops…in about 20 minutes. My most popular item!

Pumpkin spice mini cupcakes with ginger cream cheese icing…Hello, Fall! These also went fast!

My sock monkey smash cake, covered in fondant…I’m surprised he survived since the cake was at the perfect height for sticky little fingers to grab left and right at it! What’s a smash cake, you ask? The single-serving mini cake that you let your 1 year old tear into, while you take the moment to capture the sweet mess on film!

My lovely raffle winner! She was the proud recipient of 12 cake pops, and 2 dozen cookies….baked goods=happy people. And, I love her nail polish color!

Me, feeding the hungry parents and kids of the Main Line!

Thanks to everybody who came out to enjoy the event! I think a good time was had by all, and I look forward to next year!

pumpkin chocolate chip roll

Fall is finally here! Even though it has been humid and disgusting out the past few days, it’s finally cooling off now and getting chilly at night– my favorite kind of weather! Fall desserts are centered around pumpkin for me…fun fact, up until about 2 years ago I had NO idea that I loved pumpkin so much– I guess I hadn’t ever tried it? Nope, not even pumpkin pie. I finally tried it one day, and now I’m slightly addicted…my pantry is stocked and ready for a pumpkin extinction.

One of my favorite pumpkin desserts is the famous pumpkin roll! It incorporates pumpkin and cream cheese, which are two of my favorite ingredients to use. But, it seem to always be missing one major thing– CHOCOLATE! So, I decided to fix that on my spin on the pumpkin roll!

Pumpkin, eggs, sugar, and spice!

Meet my version of a jelly roll pan. Take a regular cookie sheet, spray some cooking oil, and cover with parchment paper! Works just the same…

The finished cake!

Now for the star– the filling! Philly represent! Just kidding, but the beginning of this filling looks really healthy, no?

Cream cheese chocolate chip!

Putting them together…and now for the hard part– the “roll”!

The finished product! Not only does powdered sugar look pretty, but it also conveniently covers any small cracks in the pumpkin roll! Not that mine had any, or anything. I am now convinced powdered sugar is always seen on this dessert for that reason…

Close up! This cake is delicious, especially chilled!

Happy Fall!

ginger sparkle cookies (aka molasses!)

So, I have this good friend Jenny…we used to work together at the *best job ever* (scientific research…geeksss)– until we both decided to leave and go back to school and pursue different careers (what.were.we.thinking!). Anyway, Jenny was involved in a long and drawn out science experiment to find the perfect molasses cookie. Think spreadsheets and multiple recipe experiments. I’m not one to say no to a cookie project, so I decided to give it a go:

Purpose: to create the perfect molasses cookie

Materials: Molasses, of course!

The molasses makes the dough really sticky!

Methods: I bundled the molasses cookie dough up in wax paper for its long stay in the fridge…

Rolling the cookie in sparkly sugar. Let’s pretend for a moment that I anticipated taking pictures of my baking, and didn’t place the sugar in an Italian pasta bowl!

Results: Dozens of yummy, sparkly cookies! The crackling effect is my favorite part…

Discussion: Mmmm.

The thing that is great about this cookie is that if you store it correctly (think airtight container on the counter!) they become softer and melt in your mouth after about a day! I know this, because for my cookie experiment I had to taste the cookies at different intervals to mark the progress…heh.

These are definitely going to be one of my new favorite holiday cookies!
